I don't really wonder about the state of the world, as it's clear what needs to be done. Given technology the people set on keeping people down will need to devise new ways to do it without being exposed to millions of people in a few seconds. I don't doubt that the people set on keeping people down will succeed, and continue. However, a voice can be universal, and stronger at this time.
This brings me to the power of music. Recently, I was put in a real downer mood very quickly because of the selfishness of some people. Basically, a person (A) considered another person(B)not worthy. Person A rallied for English only legislation. The result is that person B's language is considered second-class. How can one person's language not be equal to another person's language? I don't care what country, how can someone's language be considered second-class? That is not right.
When I was brought up we weren't taught Italian at home. Many years later I wondered at this because my dad is the son of immigrants. Little did I know that my grandfather did not allow Italian spoken in his home. I don't know if he caved into the pressure to be Americanized, or if he truly did not think the Italian language was on par with English. No matter what, as the second generation of Italian immigrants it is a travesty that I was not brought up knowing Italian in my own home.
Ok, back to power of music. I was in a downer mood and Bruce Springsteen's "Dancing in the Dark" came on, and I felt better :)
